The music video workflow

  1. New project — pick a format and a frame rate ("Same as the first take" takes the rate of the first video you add).
  2. The song — upload the master audio (Media → Upload → Song or audio), then choose Set as the song in the Song panel (shown when no clip is selected). Creator finds the tempo, the beats and the bars; the grid appears on the timeline and the BPM in the panel.
  3. The takes — add many videos from Crate at once. As each one is ready, Creator syncs it to the song by its sound and puts it on its own lane, numbered 1–9.
  4. Review and mark — play, watch the takes in sync, mark ranges Good (G), Best (B) or Reject (X), and add notes (N).
  5. Cut — play the song and press 1–9 to switch angles live, or open the grid (⌘G) and click a take; or let Auto-cut propose a first edit.
  6. Polish — add transitions, effects, text and captions.
  7. Export — pick a preset; Creator renders from your originals in the background.

Fixing the beat grid

The Song panel has what you need when the detected grid is off:

  • Tap tempo — tap along four times or more while the song plays.
  • ÷2 / ×2 — when the grid counts half or double the tempo you feel.
  • Set downbeat here — put the playhead on the first beat of a bar.
  • Earlier / Later — move the whole grid by 10 ms.
  • Detect again — start over.

Sections (verse, chorus, …) start at the playhead and last until the next one. Auto-cut can cut denser in choruses.

When a take needs review

Creator compares each take's sound with the song. When it isn't sure — a take with other music, wind, or very little of the song — the lane shows Review. Open it, play, and move the take a frame at a time (−10, −1, +1, +10) until the sound matches, then choose Looks right. Any lane can be aligned the same way from its slider button.

Live switching

  • 1–9 cut the edit to that take at the playhead. With snapping on (the magnet), the cut lands on the nearest beat.
  • ⌥1–⌥9 switch the selected segment to another take, at the same moment of the song.
  • Dragging the line between two segments moves the cut and keeps both in sync with the song.

Ratings

G, B and X mark the take that is playing in the edit: the range between I and O if you set one, the bar that is playing while you play, or from your previous mark to the playhead. Ratings show as a strip on the take's lane; the star button dims everything that isn't Good or Best.

Auto-cut

Auto-cut… above the timeline proposes a whole edit: a cut every beat, 2 beats, bar or 2 bars, using Best before Good (or any take you didn't reject), never the same take twice in a row. The preview shows which take plays where; Replace edit applies it as one step you can undo.
